Thailand weeks 2&4

I’m stuck between I need to save money and you only live once. - anonymous

I got to the fancy hotel my brother wanted me to check out. He had seen a video of people swimming in the glass bottom, elevated pool. It is pretty spectacular. However, when I arrived, it was closed for maintenance…of course.

The people at the hotel were lovely, though, and upgraded me to a suite with my own pool. It was very fancy, with an indoor/outdoor tub and rain shower as well. I very much enjoyed my splurge!

The best part of this was that it led me to Khao Yai National Park. This had not been on my list or even recommended by any bloggers or people I’ve met. And wouldn’t you know it, it was my favorite part of Thailand. I took an excursion into the jungle with a guide, a couple from Spain, a couple from New Zealand, and a guy from Italy. The day began with our guide, Tina, handing out leech socks. I was stuck between “this is going to be so cool” and “ick, leeches.” But we all put them on, and I was grateful to have them. We had so much fun hiking through the jungle, and Tina was excellent at spotting all kinds of spiders, snakes, and birds. Of course, we were all hoping to see an elephant, and we could even hear them toward the end of the day, but the elephants eluded us in the end. It’s crazy that you can be close enough to listen to them walking and yet not be able to see them through the jungle.

After Khao Yai, I returned to Bangkok for a bit, and then it’s on to Cambodia (my Thai visa is about to expire). I planned to tour Cambodia and head to Vietnam to meet my daughter and her friend. I cannot be more excited about that! My plans have changed, though. I will still see the girls in Vietnam, but I’m cutting Cambodia a little shorter (two weeks) to head to Singapore. I know, totally not on the way, but I have a chance to see a Camino friend who will be working at the Women’s World Floorball Championships there. It seemed like a fun thing to do after I quickly looked up floorball. So, I’m going to Singapore for a week before heading to Vietnam. And yes, the US does have a team, and I’m looking forward to cheering those ladies on!

XOXO,

Bon
