Day 17, Priesca to Peon

To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work. - Mary Oliver

Today was a 30k walk and for some reason I once again thought it was like 20k. Not only that but it was a steep uphill for at least 3k. Every corner i was sure we would be at the top but the hill seemed to grow as we went.

Clearly, I do not pay attention to my fellow walkers well. It’ll be an easy one today always seems to be the refrain.

And I buy it, over and over. Mostly because I just don’t want to plan the day myself.

My legs are sore, tired, swollen, rashy and quite frankly hairy. Lol, it’s a rough look these days.

I arrived at the alburgue tonight with 4 other walkers (all men ages 19-60). You always need to take your shoes and socks off before going inside. All of the guys looked at my leg (the sock had put a funny dent in the swelling). They shook their heads and said, “it’s okay we will only look at you from the knees up from now on.”

They are just a riot. (At least that’s what they think). Archie did give me some loose fitting socks to try tomorrow.

The alburgue tonight is great, we got a huge dinner, a cozy room to hang out with a fire and two guitars, which a couple of guys play marginally well. But then we switched to streaming music and it was a fun night. The bed situation is once again a big bunk room, but by now these guys are like family, haha.

The plus side to being the single woman here (more men arrived so now it’s a 7 to 1 ratio) is that I have the women’s bathroom all to myself.

They are also serving us breakfast in the morning, which I’ve learned means a huge hunk of bread and coffee, but still! All of this for 22€.

It’s a good group, and I’m that really good kind of exhausted.

Just hope I don’t snore tonight, because they will never let me forget it if I do!

Buen Camino

XOXO,

Bon
